This site is dedicated to electric substitutes for the sun. Sun-lamps, heat-lamps and light-sources, designed to simulate the natural and well-doing radiation of the sun. A sun-lamp emits ultraviolet radiation, a heat-lamp infrared radiation. A light-source emits radiation in the visible part of the electromagnetic spectrum. This can be full-spectrum light but also filtered light with a specific colour. The purpose is always the same: Artificial generation of a part of the sun’s spectrum. This site focuses on electrically generated radiation for medical purposes or for human well-being.

This site gives an overview of the discovery and the physical backgrounds of sunshine, an overview of technical properties of sun substitutes and the real- or supposed influence of different types of artificial sunlight to our health. The sun gallery contains a collection images of sun-lamps, face-tanners, heat-lamps and light-sources. The hyperlinks will guide you to sites containing images or videos of comparable sun substitutes. One page is dedicated to the Philips Infraphil, a heat-lamp that is a legend by itself. More information about this lamp can be found on www.infraphil.info.
